I have been super slow to update and way behind on informing everyone what has happend.
So here goes: I am in the Chicagoland area now finishing up school and trying to get a career started before I graduate. A few interviews here and there some assisting over there. Good experience so far. Been working with James Steinkamp going out on a shoot and learning from there.
Also had an interview that I believe played out pretty well at Hedrich Blessing. Have not gone out to work with the group yet, but hopefully soon. This summer could prove to be a very exciting and interesting beginning towards my career.
I have also been doing a lot of searching lately. You always hear the saying that if your hearts not in what your doing then its not worth doing at all. Well when I think about that and take it in, I know there is nothing else I would rather be doing. Everyone has needs that keep them sane and use what ever things to fill those needs. For me I love design, cleanliness, simplicity, beauty, and preservation. Those are pretty basic surface level needs, yet architectural photography covers all of them. Nothing inspires me more than a a beautiful structure that has every inch perfectly crafted and will be marveled upon for ages.

Helicopter Adventure, Chicago Extravaganza
Oct 9th
So about 2 weeks ago i got the rad idea that i would charter a helicopter to do some aerial work over down town chicago. Well after talking to abunch of shitty tour group companies that were all about sight seeing and flying around. I discoverd Sun Aero Helicopters in Lansing Illinois. What made them way better was the fact, they specialize in aerial photography and re totally familliar with assissitng people, companies, and even small buisness like my self in doing this work.
Some cool things they did over all the others.
1. Removed the door. No shooting through dirty windows
2. I told them where to go, what to do, and how ever long i wanted,
3. The pilot asked me if i wanted to do a barrel roll.
In about an hour i shot a good 400 images. I got a little excited.
things to note: changing lens with no door and high winds totally rules. Good thing i didnt drop my 100-400 out.
Anyways, Aerials are rad, everyone should do it. I have a ton of great work that will filter its way onto brettbulthuis.com but untill than here are some quick snapshots from inside the helicopter and its interior to give a good scale of the height, lack of door, and awesomeness.
p.s i wont show many of the aerials till all are complete in a series. i gave ya a teaser in the gallery.
p.s.s Its ally copyrighted, so dont steal it. ©BrettBulthuis
